These are challenging times for Vermonters. Now, more than ever, our public officials must do the hard work of ensuring that government is working well for all Vermonters.
After much thought, I have decided to run for Secretary of State because of my belief that new voices and new energy are needed in Montpelier, and that our state government must constantly be striving for ways to improve, reform, and modernize.
The Secretary of State is responsible for a wide variety of functions revolving around the concept of good and efficient government. My primary goal is to identify ways to reform and modernize our state government so that it effectively addresses the needs of all Vermonters. This requires listening to Vermonters, collaborating with them, and never forgetting that government serves the people, not the other way around.
Maintaining the integrity of elections and campaigns, fairly and effectively regulating Vermont professionals, advocating for open and transparent government, and modernizing the Secretary of State’s office are not partisan issues – they are common sense Vermont issues. That is why, as Vermont’s Secretary of State, I will be guided by common sense, not partisanship, as I pursue real-world solutions to the varied problems facing our state.
