Why Chris Roy

Do you sense that Vermont’s state government has been treading water for some time? The same factions seem to engage in the same battles year after year, with little progress being made on the issues that impact regular Vermonters in a practical way.

Chris Roy has spent his adult life serving his community in a variety of ways, while raising a family and building a 20-year legal career. By running for Secretary of State, he hopes to introduce a fresh voice and renewed energy into the public debate. Chris has no interest in scoring partisan points while dividing the state into adversarial factions. He is no longer satisfied to sit back and wait for others to deliver solutions – he wants to roll his sleeves up and be part of the solution.

Chris’ background is particularly well-suited for the position of Secretary of State. He is an elected member of the Williston Selectboard. His legal practice has included representing regulated entities and appearing before numerous local and state boards. He has served on a variety of local and state boards, and has volunteered for innumerable community projects over the years.

Perhaps most importantly, he is one of us. After college and law school, Chris chose to return to his home state to build a career and raise a family because of Vermont's strong sense of community and remarkable quality of life. That is not to say that everything in Vermont is picture perfect – Chris knows first-hand what it’s like to raise a family in Vermont, to run a small business, to work toward building a strong community. He wants to make Vermont a better place for his family with bountiful opportunities for his children – the same wish of Vermonters from across our state. Chris is willing to embark on that journey, and hopes that you will join him in the effort.
